The Otis Engineering Center – India (OEC-I), one of the six Development Centers
across Otis Worldwide, became operational at ISRC in 2005. Since its inception,
we have been rapidly enhancing our capabilities in terms of Domain Knowledge,
Technological Strength & Process Maturity. During this course, OEC-I has
added tremendous value to the Global Component Development Programs through
participation in Development and Support efforts for Embedded Software
/Applications and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) Applications.
To be
able to operate hand-in-hand with global OEC partners, OEC-I has build a world
class embedded development facility at Pune, which includes state-of-the-art
laboratory equipped with various Development Tools, Probes & IDEs, test
equipments like high end Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, Protocol Analyzers,
Debuggers etc. Also OEC-I keeps itself ahead on this curve by acquiring latest
series of hardware platforms, simulators, converters, servers & other
equipments. The technical manpower is trained overseas & within India
periodically to keep abreast of latest technologies & trends.
Remote Elevator Monitoring (REM) & Diagnostics including Network Manager System (NMS) is to provide round the clock and real time monitoring & auto-alarm generation mechanisms for elevators in operation. The system also facilitates remote intervention, remote rescue and enables Elite Service capabilities for Otis products. The OEC-I teams are at the forefront of supporting & enhancing these systems globally, at the same time developing /enabling next generation of REM systems e.g. Gateway2, NMS4, Remote Elevator Inspection (REI) etc. which are equipped with more & more intelligent diagnostic capabilities.
Dispatching Simulation Tools help to calculate an optimized combination and number of elevators for an existing Building or new Buildings for a given volume of passenger traffic. These tools implement the advanced Otis proprietary Elevatoring algorithms which are used by the group of elevators to handle the passenger traffic. In addition, these tools demonstrate the amount of energy saving in the form of electricity consumption, by using Re-generative Drives which make use of the gravitational force to save power, as against conventional Drives. Customized report generation features allows easy & quick method for building owner to make decisions related to right combination of elevators.
Test Automation for Elevator Controller is achieved by using innovative methods of connecting to the elevator system using PC based Monitoring /Emulation applications. These applications simulate various usage scenarios via automated scripts & collect feedback to ascertain the controller behaves in a correct manner under various operating conditions. Also it verifies the Modes & Features, which are programmed in the Elevator Controller, work in expected manner. The Test Automation enables tremendous amount of saving on time & efforts spent in Evaluation & Qualification of Elevator Controller.
Modeling & Simulation are techniques to estimate, the level of noise & vibrations which are induced by the elevator system, on the PC. These tools allow creating models of noise generated in the adjacent room & help to minimize it by making design changes. Such tools also allow capturing & analysis of noise from the hoistway or vibrations from the car (vertical as well as lateral vibrations) remotely & compare against pre-defined benchmarks so as to identify any abnormalities.
Elevator Management System (EMS) Provides the building owner or manager a real time animation /graphical view of all the elevators, escalators and moving walkways by group, which are operational in the premises. The system is able to generate sophisticated reports regarding Elevator and Escalator performance on a real-time and historical basis. Apart from monitoring, the system allows to exercise control in the form of Hall security, Group parameters, Car security Car commands, Car parameters, Special Functions, Escalator interactive commands etc. so as to react to unusual passenger traffic or any other situations.

Domain Expertise
Common Computing Platform is for next generation controllers
in Elevator Systems. The Computing Platform offers reusable components in the
form of SDK including Device Drivers, Services, RTOS, as well as Boot Loader
/Boot Program, Secondary Loader, Firmware Upgrade capabilities etc. OEC-I has
successfully deployed such reusable components in multiple platforms including
Global Control System (GCS), next generation Global Elevator Control Board
(GECB2), next generation communication & diagnostic interface (Gateway2),
Door Controller, Safety Sub-System, Speech Synthesis.Remote Elevator Monitoring (REM) & Diagnostics including Network Manager System (NMS) is to provide round the clock and real time monitoring & auto-alarm generation mechanisms for elevators in operation.
